Special Election for a Home Rule Charter Amendment November 5th |
Irving, Texas. October 16, 2019 –
Residents will go to the polls Nov. 5 to vote on 10 State of Texas Constitutional Amendments and one proposed amendment to the City of Irving Charter. Early voting will begin Oct. 21 and run through Nov. 1.
This year, Dallas County will implement vote centers countywide. Vote centers will continue to allow residents to vote at any polling location in Dallas County during early voting, as well as keep most early voting polling locations open on Election Day. Additionally, Dallas County voters will no longer need to vote at their designated precinct location on Election Day. Voters can now vote at any polling location within Dallas County due to the benefit of vote centers. The goal of vote centers is to make voting more readily accessible to voters, thereby hopefully increasing a voter’s ability to vote.
EARLY VOTING DAYS AND HOURS
- Oct. 21 – Oct. 26, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Oct. 27, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Oct. 28 – Oct. 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
ELECTION DAY AND HOURS
- Nov. 5, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dallas County polling locations for Early Voting and Election Day can be found at CityofIrving.org or at DallasCountyVotes.org.
The city charter sets forth policies and procedures by which the city governs itself in accordance with state and federal laws. The City Council called the November charter election for voters to decide on the proposed change. The proposed amendment would remove a cap on the city’s contributions to employee’s retirement benefits. The ballot language is listed below.
PROPOSITION A
The change relates to removal of limitations on contributions for retirement benefits. Art. IX, Sec. 8, the total annual amount of the City of Irving contribution for employee retirement benefits is removed.
