Irving Police Welcomed Home Sarai Tirado with a Parade

Irving, Texas. July 8, 2020

On March 16, 2020 at 10:30 p.m. Irving Officers were dispatched to an unconscious person call at 410 Collins in South Irving.   Dispatch had notified officers that 4 year-old, Sarai Tirado, was unconscious and not breathing. The dresser and television in Sarai’s room fell over and crushed her when she was climbing up the front of the dresser to change the TV channel. Officer Long and Officer Vanderveer arrived on scene and immediately began providing CPR until Irving Fire arrived. Do to the efforts of these officers and fire personnel they were able to prolong Sarai’s life and get her to the hospital. Sarai had been in the hospital recovering since March 16. Sarai still has a long road to recovery, but has been improving, and got released from the hospital on Tuesday, June 30.

The Irving Police Department and Irving Fire Department organized a welcome home parade to recognize Sarai.   The parade took place on Tuesday, July 7 at 3:00 pm.

After speaking to Sarai’s mom, the police department is using this event to educate parents about how easy it is for a furniture to fall over on a child, and the need to secure these type items to the wall.

Sarai also wanted to thank and honor the officer and fire personnel who helped save her life.
