A brief but powerful EF1 tornado touched down in Irving early on March 3, 2025, at approximately 5:25 AM, causing significant damage and prompting road closures in the area. According to the US National Weather Service Fort Worth, the tornado began near Pecan Drive, south of West Pioneer Drive, and tracked east-northeast before dissipating between Cedar Drive and North O’Connor Road.
The tornado reached maximum estimated winds of 110 mph at the Tree Country Apartments. As a result, Pioneer Drive and North O'Connor Road remain closed to through traffic. Residents who were not required to evacuate can return home, but most areas are only accessible by foot due to the road closures. Detours are being provided for those needing access.
For displaced individuals, shelter is available at the Georgia Farrow Recreation Center, located at 530 Davis Drive in Irving. Those requiring services from the Irving Family Advocacy Center can reach out at 972-721-6560 during normal business hours or visit the Criminal Justice Center at 305 N. O'Connor Road.
Irving police are advising residents to call 972-273-1010 for non-emergencies or 911 for emergencies. Authorities continue to assess the damage and work to reopen the affected roads.
