The Garland Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on March 15, 2025, near the intersection of East Oates Road and Miami Drive.
Officers responded to the scene shortly after 10:15 p.m. and found two victims in the roadway: a 14-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the scene and a 16-year-old male who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Nearby, officers located a damaged 2005 brown Chevy Silverado. Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the vehicle with a child following the crash.
Through evidence gathered at the scene, officers identified the driver as 30-year-old Stetson Ybarbo of Rowlett. Investigators believe Ybarbo was driving eastbound on East Oates Road at a high rate of speed when he left the roadway, striking the two pedestrians and several parked cars before fleeing without rendering aid.
Officers later located Ybarbo at a residence in Garland, where he was taken into custody. He was booked into the Garland Jail and charged with:
- Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Death
- Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Serious Bodily Injury
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released the names or photos of the juvenile victims.
