2012 Election Spotlight: Tom Spink

Tom Spink: Running for Irving's District 8 Council Seat.  The following Bio was submitted by Mr. Spink to Irving Weekly:
 
Tom and his wife Linda, long time residents, make their home in South Irving. Their family is grown and they are proud grandparents but have now filled their home with their Golden Retrievers, some of whom have been trained as hospital ambassadors to various rehab groups.
 
Tom attended several colleges and universities, earning multiple degrees in engineering, business and law. Tom has completed special licensing in multiple fields in order to own, manage and succeed with over 40 years experience in the business world. He is CEO of multiple successful banking, insurance and financial consulting companies in Irving. Tom’s belief in diversity is apparent in his staffs of multi-ethnic employees. His reputation in the corporate world is impeccable. His expertise in banking and finance will be invaluable tools for helping Irving out of the present financial crisis and helping us to reduce our debt.
 
Tom is a consultant to the boards of three Texas banks. Tom also maintains a professional and personal relationship with many state and local elected officials.
 
Tom is a supporter of the Animal Volunteer Group at Baylor and volunteers with critically burned children. He is a neighborhood volunteer and attends Neighborhood association meetings regularly. As many who have called on Tom for his help can attest to, volunteering is one of Tom’s greatest joys in life.
 
Tom feels that the next three years will be critical for Irving. His experience will be vital to help guide the City through the challenges that we are certain to face with out of control spending, declining sales tax income, possible increases in fees and property taxes, possible loss in bond ratings, the Entertainment Center,  and moving forward with development in the Heritage District.
 
Tom Spink is a trusted member of our community who will stand on conservative principles, an unwavering faith in the people of Irving, and work tirelessly on behalf of Irving tax payers.
 
Tom's Vision for Irving: 
  • Publically support and vote for a third party audit of the Entertainment District;
  • Cut all wasteful federal government style spending;
  • Reduce the city's multimillion dollar debt;
  • End the destructive backroom deals and endure transparency;
  • Protect home and small business owners from higher taxes;
  • Provide families with safer neighborhoods and communities.
