The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is for 3rd - 5th grade teachers and dedicated into increasing students’ learning and appreciation of math and science.  Sylvia Tellez, fourth grade GT teacher at T. J. Lee Elementary, is one of only 14 Texas teachers invited to attend the New Jersey Academy, July 22-27.  Irving also has nine additional teachers who will be attending the Houston Academy June 17-22. These nine teachers are Jose Basurto, fifth grade bilingual teacher at Hanes; John Bowman, fifth grade teacher at Britain; Ana Hanna, fourth grade bilingual GT teacher at Farine; Traci Kernion, special education teacher at Gilbert; Kipper Marrs, third grade teacher at T. J. Lee; Liliana Murtha, third grade bilingual teacher at Brandenburg; Linda Robinson, Special Education teacher at Barton; Joy Siljan, fourth grade teacher at Farine; and Demesha Webster, fourth grade teacher at Elliott. The expectation is that teachers will gain more content knowledge, and add to their instructional strategies to implement in their classrooms.  The Academy is designed so that science is the content, and mathematics is the tool for learning the science.  This is Irving ISD’s sixth year to be invited to participate.
