DALLAS — A former Dallas police officer and past president of the Dallas Police Association has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in 2025.
Jaime Castro pleaded guilty Friday to one count of making a false statement to a police officer, a Class B misdemeanor, related to a crash that killed 25-year-old Atianna Washington.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Castro will:
-
Surrender his peace officer license
-
Complete DWI education classes
-
Pay a fine
-
Serve one year of deferred probation
The charge stems from a March 15, 2025 crash in the 2500 block of West Northwest Highway in northwest Dallas.
According to investigators, Washington was attempting to cross a dimly lit portion of the roadway when she was struck and killed.
Castro, who at the time was serving as president of the Dallas Police Association, was listed as a passenger in the vehicle involved in the crash. The Dallas Police Association represents rank-and-file Dallas police officers.
Following the incident, Castro was placed on administrative leave while the Dallas Police Department conducted an investigation. Castro, who joined the department in 1998, later announced his retirement in January 2026.
Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot said the plea came after a detailed review by the office’s Public Integrity Unit.
“This guilty plea is the result of a thorough investigation by my office’s Public Integrity Unit based on the facts available to us,” Creuzot said. “Per DPD policy, it appears the investigation at the scene was incomplete.”
Creuzot also noted that the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was not present and had no role in the original investigation at the scene of the crash.
He credited Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux with continuing to review the incident after taking leadership of the department.
“Were there other crimes committed or criminal liability stemming from the original offense, unfortunately, we may never know despite our exhaustive efforts to find the truth,” Creuzot said.
