BY IRVING WEEKLY STAFFIrving, Texas. September 17, 2012 – Two Irving ISD counselors will be recognized in Washington, D.C. Demarius Howard of Singley Academy and Melanie Maine of Houston Middle School have been awarded a trip to the nation’s capital as a reward for their commitment and work with Parents Step Ahead. Parents Step Ahead is a Dallas-based non-profit organization. Ambassadors of the program are teachers and administrators who actively engage parents who typically do not participate in their children’s education.
By going above and beyond their daily responsibilities, these two counselors are strengthening the relationships with parents to ensure the success of students and families. The two Irving ISD employees will also meet with representatives from the Office of Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) and tour the White House, the Capitol and the Pentagon.
