BY IRVING WEEKLY STAFFIrving, Texas. September 25, 2012 – The DFW Asian-American Citizens Council presented Anthony Bond with its 2012 Friendship Award. The awards banquet was held Saturday at the Westin Park Central Hotel in Dallas. Anthony Bond, a community activist in Irving, helped the African-American and Korean communities come together after tensions flared in late 2010. Protests erupted after a Korean store owner shot and killed a black man who was stealing from him. Bond helped negotiate peace. He also helped organize “Resonance and Harmony,” an entertainment program which showcased Korean and African American culture. The event was held at the Irving Convention Center in May. In addition to the Friendship Award, new council board members were sworn in. Irving board members include Lily Mak, Katherine Dress and Diana Meilan Wang.
