Irving Police Issues Warning on Apartment Burglary Trend

BY IRVING WEEKLY STAFF

Irving, Texas. October 19, 2012

Investigators with the Irving Police Department would like to inform residents of a trend occurring in apartment burglaries throughout the city. The number of burglaries is not on the rise; however the method of entry is the same in many of the burglaries. The sliding glass door is being targeted as the point of entry. There is no one particular area where the burglaries are occurring and they appear to be random. We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to practice good crime prevention techniques. Make sure your sliding glass door is locked not only with the primary locking mechanism but with a secondary security measure. A wooden dowel or security pin or lock can be used to help secure the door.

If your residence has an alarm make sure it is activated not only when you leave but when you are home at night. Know who your neighbors are and always remember to call the police if you see someone or something suspicious. If you have any questions about your apartment security contact your apartment manager or the Community Services Division of the Irving Police Department at 972-721-2615.
