Advance Placement Scores on the Rise

BY IRVING WEEKLY STAFF

Irving, Texas. November 2, 2012

Advance Placement participation and performance continues to increase within Irving ISD through a strategically developed advanced placement action plan. The numbers are in and the results point in the right direction.  Irving ISD witnessed a 9.4% increase in the amount of students participating in courses. There was also an 11.8% increase in the number of AP exams taken, a 17.6% increase in the number of AP exams with passing scores and a 14.4% increase in the number of AP Scholars.

These statistics provided by the Irving ISD are indeed positive, but some parents are questioning how much attention students in the AP program are getting.  It is the district's policy to integrate students with basic levels and advance placement students.  In this scenario, teachers are forced to spend much of their time helping students that are behind to catch up.  Although it is commendable that these Irving teachers are focusing on developing students, it leaves AP students to basically work on their own.
