Four Seasons Resort raises $120,000 for Irving Cancer Center

On Oct. 27, 550 people in Irving took a run at cancer and helped raise $120,000 in the process.

Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas concluded its 28th annual Cool October events with a Cool Run on a chilly Saturday. Throughout the month of October, Four Seasons Dallas held three fundraising sports marathons, a golf tournament, an online auction and a 5K/10K run, along with multiple employee events. The Resort’s leadership presented a check for $120,000 on Oct. 28 to leaders from Baylor Medical Center at Irving in support of diagnosis and treatment at the hospital’s Irving Cancer Center.

“Four Seasons did a remarkable job this year and Baylor Irving cannot thank their staff, sports club members and event sponsors enough for the hard work that they did in raising funds to support our Cancer Center,” said Cindy Schamp, president of Baylor Irving. “Part of the money raised will go directly to funding a Breast Oncology Nurse Navigator, who helps patients from the day of diagnosis all the way to the completion of surgery and treatment.” Charitable dollars fund the first year of salary for this navigator and then the hospital assumes the cost in the following years.

The gift will also fund the purchase of new equipment and software to more specifically treat cancer and document the care each patient receives. “We’re very excited that part of the 2012 Cool Events’ proceeds from Four Seasons Dallas will fund the development of software that will create a ‘map’ or report of each step in a patient’s care. Then, if these patients move to a new city, they can give their new doctors this detailed report of what has been done to help them battle their cancers,” noted Irving Healthcare Foundation President John Drake. IHF raises funds for Baylor Irving and for four other healthcare-focused charities in Irving.

Community members can make tax-deductible gifts directly to support cancer services at www.healthyirving.org. Gifts also can be mailed to the Irving Healthcare Foundation at 1901 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas, 75061. Please note “Cancer Center” on any gifts mailed.
