The Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra continues its 2012-2013 Season “VIVA ESPAÑA”!
The sensuous rhythms and exotic melodies of Spain will highlight the 24th concert season of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra. The LCSO will be performing Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni, Turina’s Sinfonia Sevillana, and Padilla’s El Rilicario. This concert will also feature guest conductor, Jesus Medina one of Mexico’s most outstanding conductors!

A native of Colleyville, Texas, violinist Stirling Trent has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Currently a resident of Southern California, he has performed in many of the region’s top ensembles, such as the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Pasadena Master Chorale. He also serves as Concertmaster for a number of exciting new ensembles, such as the Symbiosis Ensemble, based out of Los Angeles, and the Arizona Chamber Orchestra, out of Phoenix. Most recently, Stirling was offered a position with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
Notable concert appearances by Mr. Trent include Live from Lincoln Center with Itzhak Perlman, as well as a series at Carnegie Hall in 2003 in which he was concertmaster for the New York String Orchestra under Jaime Laredo. In 2007, Stirling sat as concertmaster for the Moritzburg Festival Academy Orchestra under Hermann Bäumer, in Dresden, Germany. Mr. Trent has won numerous awards, including Grand Prizes from the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras’ Juanita Miller Competition, the Dallas Symphonic Festival, and the Hubbard Chamber Music Festival. In 1999, he received the inaugural Bayard Friedman Award for an Outstanding Student in the Performing Arts. His international competition experience includes the Sixth Quadrennial International Violin Competition in Indianapolis, the Geneva International Music Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition for violinists in Brussels, Belgium, the 5th Seoul International Music Competition, in Seoul, South Korea, and the 4th Sendai International Music Competition, in Sendai, Japan.
Mr. Trent is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he was a student of Itzhak Perlman. In addition to his Bachelor’s degree from Juilliard, he studied for many years with Jan Mark Sloman, the Associate Principal Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony, and earned an Artist Certificate from Southern Methodist University. Having been inspired by great teachers himself, Stirling enjoys working with a small private studio of his own students. Recently, he was invited to join the violin faculty of the Idyllwild Summer Arts Academy. Stirling is working towards his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where his principal teacher is Midori Goto.
Jesus Medina is one of Mexico’s outstanding conductors. Actually he’s Music Director of Thin Monterrey, Mexico, and founder and Music Director of The Milenium Sinfonietta.
Medina, was Music Director of some important Mexican orchestras, like the Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra, the UNAM Philharmonic and the Queretaro Philharmonic.
In a short period of time, he has become one of the most sought-after conductors of his country, regularly guest conducting Mexico’s most prominent orchestras. Abroad he conducted orchestras in the United States, Brazil, Singapore, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Venezuela, Serbia, Hungary, Guatemala, Ecuador, El Salvador and Colombia. Future engagements includes presentations in Italy, Brazil, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Portugal, Poland.
Itzhak Perlman, Joaquin Achucarro, Alexander Markov, Angel Romero, Horacio Gutierrez, Elmar Oliveira, Pierre Amoyal, Jean Louis Steuermann, Mauro Maur, Jens Lindemann, Nathaniel Rosen, Mark Peskanov, Konstanty Kulka, Gyorgy Sandor, Pascal Devoyon, Fernando de la Mora, The Vienna Schubert Trio, Nikita Storoyev, Vladimir Viardo, are some of the soloists that have played under his baton.
He has conducted many operas such as Lucia de Lamermoor, La Cenerentola, La Italiana in Algieri, or ballets, such as Romeo and Juliet, Carmina Burana, Oneguin, Giselle, Don Quixote, Carmen and The Nutcracker, and zarzuelas, La Revoltosa and numerous others.
With La Camerata de las Americas, he has participated numerous times in Mexico’s most relevant music festivals with repertoire ranging from the baroque to the avant-garde.
He has recorded with La Camerata three CD’s, one called “Sabor Latino”, another with the world premiere of the ballet “Dias de Muertos” by mexican composer Eugenio Toussaint, and last one called Gauguin; this CD, was nominated to the Latin American Grammy 2001, for best classical album.
In 1991 he was awarded the prize of the Mexican Union of Music and Art Critics for being The Best Conductor of the Year, and in 2004 the prize “Gaviota” from the Latinamerican Association of Critics.
He studied conducting under Charles Bruck at The Pierre Monteux School in Maine, USA, and previously with Enrique Diemecke and Fernando Lozano in Mexico City.

Maestro Austin’s background encompasses over 30 years of professional music experience and includes degrees from MIT, Cambridge University, and Stanford University. Maestro Austin’s musical experience includes conducting performances in countries including: Korea, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, Spain, China, France, Germany, Mexico, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Colombia, Philippines, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and the United States.
