Singley Academy has been designated by the Texas Education Agency as a Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academy for the school year of 2014-15. The school first received this desgination in 2011.
To become a designated STEM academy, schools are expected to follow a blueprint and demonstrate that they are constantly up to its standards, which were designed to improve instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools.
The focus of the program is student engagement and exposure to innovation. T-STEM schools are expected to focus instruction on learning that models real-world experiences.
The initiative aims to closely align high school curriculum with admission requirements of competitive colleges and the STEM qualifications for 21st century jobs.
