These talented youths are given the opportunity to supplement and enhance their music education by learning symphonic literature through high-quality orchestral and ensemble training with the very best in the field. Our organization passionately stands by our belief that quality music education should be available to students of all socioeconomic levels.
The Lone Star Youth Orchestra is one component of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra’s many educational initiatives. Under the direction of Robert Carter Austin, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra has a record of excellent artistic presentation and a strong commitment to music education.
After two years of creative planning, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra formed the Lone Star Youth Orchestra (LSYO) in 1999. The youth orchestra experience is one of the most pivotal pre-college experiences for talented high school instrumentalists. Membership in the LSYO is open to all middle and high school string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.
