Irving ranks No. 2 on list of Nation's fastest growing Cities

Another day, another list featuring the Fastest Growing Cities in the Country — including Irving, which comes in at No. 2.

That’s according to WalletHub, which tallied myriad factors — everything from population growth to the number of uninsured to median household income — to come up with its ranking of 516 cities released this morning. It is worth saying: This isn’t a list of regions, a la Forbes‘ latest look-see that put Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos at the top of the pops. This is city-specific, which could be bad news for a city like Dallas, which you’ll find way down the list at No. 113, between Fresno and Murrieta, where the motto is “The Future Of Southern California.”

Mission, in south Texas, actually comes in at No. 1 on the WalletHub list, where it’s joined in the Top 10 by numerous Texas cities: Irving (of course), Edinburg (No. 5), Austin (No. 8) and Pharr (No. 9). Just a few spots down you’ll find Fort Worth at No. 14, Grand Prairie at the 17th spot and Frisco rounding out the Top 20. Keep going and going and going — past Corpus Christi, past McKinney, past El Paso and Lubbock and Houston and about half the rest of The Great State of Texas — and then you’ll find Dallas, which also ranks at No. 26 when the list is divvied into large, medium-size and small cities. On the big-city list Dallas sits between San Jose and Miami.

Coincidentally, beloved commenter Wylie H. has something to say on this very subject this morning. Long story short: “North Texas is enjoying one of the biggest economic booms in the U.S., but the benefits have largely bypassed the city of Dallas.” That’s not the first time someone’s pointed that out. Big things might be happening in Dallas. But even bigger things are happening around it.
