Verizon Wireless Employees to Mark National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

WHO/WHAT:                    Verizon employees will participate in the “Stand Up. Step Out. End Domestic Violence.” walk on Monday, October 27.  This is just one of the many activities Verizon has participated in for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (NDVAM).

During the event, Verizon will present a total of $60,000 in grants to the Family Place, Ladder Alliance, Community Enrichment Center and the Irving Police Department Victim Services Unit.  The donations are intended to help the organizations further their mission of providing shelters and prevention programs year-round to reduce domestic violence.  Verizon believes that the efforts go beyond NDVAM.

Statistics show that one in every four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.  Moreover, an estimated 3 million children in the U.S. fall victim to abuse each year.  There is an urgent need to raise awareness of domestic violence and find effective solutions.  This is why Verizon employees want to take a stand, come together as a community and rally behind the cause.
