Irving’s Central Library closed down Saturday. The library auditorium will still be open for events but books and other materials will be moved across the street to the South Irving Library, which will open in mid-March. The Central Library opened in 1986 and was quite the library back in the day. But updating it seemed a bit high-priced so city leaders decided to build a new facililty. Other libraries will help in the interim with extra hours. It remains to be seen what will become of the building once it’s emptied.
