Regina Rodgers on Irving Police Department School Crossing Guards

Our guards are a very hard working and very dedicated group of employees. We have guards with long tenures here – currently the longest is 35 years – and still going!

The Irving Police Department has up to 76 school crossing guards and staff 55 crossings.  We cover all of Irving ISD, 1 school in Coppell ISD as well as 1 school in Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD.

The Irving Police Department School Crossing Guards primary job is to assist unescorted elementary students to and from school across designated crosswalks.

The City of Irving considers pedestrian safety to be very important.  Studies have shown that school age pedestrians are the group at the greatest risk.  Trying to minimize that risk, The City provides a sidewalk system and installs traffic control devices to help elementary age children reach school as safely as possible.  Our School Crossing Guards are used to enhance safety.

The Irving Police Department School Crossing Guard Mission is – to serve the community by providing safety for children, or other pedestrians, enroute to and from school.  We do this by teaching children how to cross properly, overseeing safe crossing and observing and reporting any activity that may pose a danger at their assigned locations.

We currently have 9 open positions and are in need of people who are dedicated to protecting our future – our children.

The City of Irving designated a day just for our crossing guards this past year - School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day – September 4

All requests for a new adult crossing guard should be directed to me at the below contact information.

If there is anything in particular you would like to know about please feel free to contact me through the information below.
