Murder-suicide in North Irving Leaves Three Dead

WFAA TV is reporting that Irving Police are investigating a double murder and suicide that has upset a quiet street in Irving.

It happened in the 3800 block of Rainier Street near Cheyenne Street, just northwest of the Irving Mall.

Officer James McLellan confirmed to News 8 Wednesday that three people were dead, including the suspect.

"This appears to be a double-murder involving the wife of the suspect," officer James McClellan said. "Apparently they were going through some type of divorce or they had some type of estranged relationship."

Police said a man parked away from the house, walked inside a front bedroom and began shooting — killing his estranged wife and a man she was allegedly dating. He then killed himself.

Three other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, including two 16-year-olds and another adult. One of them ran outside and called 911. All witnesses were being interviewed by Irving police.

Neighbors grew nervous watching as officers from Irving Police Department surrounded a small ranch-style house.

"We don't have trouble over here," said Shirley Culpepper as she watched officers block off the street and enter a house in the middle of the block.

Police believe the husband came to the house with the intent to kill his estranged wife and the man she was dating.

Officers searched the husband's van for evidence. They say he parked a short distance away then barged into the home and began shooting.

"I saw the kid come out of the house screaming," said neighbor Kendall Hibbetts.

Neighbors say the husband worked as a handyman and moved out of the home several weeks ago.

Jose Luis Salas lives across the street. He said he spotted the man sitting outside the home several times this week. Salas says he spoke with the suspect shortly before the shooting.

"I asked him, are you ok," Salas explained. "His eyes looked kind of real mad."

The murders have rattled neighbors on Rainier, including one mom who lives two doors away. She said her kids often played with the victims' children.

"It's really, really sad," the woman said. "I'm really scary about it."

Police have not yet identified the victims involved. They say this was an isolated domestic incident.
