Irving High, Singley FCCLA Advance to Nationals

One team from Irving High School and four from Singley Academy are headed to Nationals following top-two finishes at the FCCLA State Conference in Corpus Christi earlier this month.

The team of Ryan Etherington, Yelsie Santiesteban and Evelyn Perez of Irving High finished first in applied math for culinary arts. Singley’s senior applied math for culinary management team – comprised of Monica Hernandez, Giovanny Mejia and Emily Alvareringa – and the food innovations team – with members Hope Cachay, Victoria Martinez and Eileen Romero – also won first in their respective category. Andrea Garcia and Barbara Rangel, the entrepreneurship team from Singley, also landed a golden finish. Stephanie Guerrero of Singley placed second in the nutrition and wellness category. All four teams will compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference July 5 – 9 in Washington, D.C.

Irving High’s Chapter in Review team – comprised of Greybi Diaz, Laura Gonzalez and Marbella Tranquilino – placed fourth at state competition. Singley students snagged several bronze finishes including Rebecca Henriquez in the serving up success category, Linda Nguyen and Juan Colin in the chapter service project and Breana Prather and Aimee Stegman in advocacy. Fourth place finishes by Singley students included Luis Velasquez, Eli Lucero and Kaitlyn Johnson in entrepreneurship; and Abelardo Villegas, Catherine Bankston and Juan Altamirano in senior food innovations. In addition, Maya Carter of Singley Academy was elected the state vice president of competitive events.
