Update on Attach on 83-year-old Dessie Hancock; Removed from Life-Support

Irving Police Department detectives continue the investigation into the attack on Dessie Hancock that occurred on December 18, 2015 in the 1300 block of Boyd Drive. Three suspects, Thomas Perkins, Edward Perkins and Jesse Perkins, were taken into custody after witnesses identified them as being present during the attack. All three were initially charged with Aggravated AssaultSerious Bodily Injury. On December 20, 2015 at approximately 8:50 p.m., detectives were notified that the victim had been removed from life-support and had passed away.  

As the investigation evolves, and after consultation with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, the charges on the suspects have been updated. As a result of the victim’s death, Jesse Perkins has been charged with Murder. Thomas Perkins has been charged with Interference with Public Duties, Hindering Apprehension and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Edward Perkins’ conduct did not rise to the level of criminal responsibility; therefore, he will not face charges at this time. The original charge of Aggravated Assault – Serious Bodily Injury against all three suspects has been dropped. The two suspects will be arraigned on the new charges at which time a bond will be set.  

There remains no motive or explanation for the crime other than it was an unprovoked random attack.
