Police Investigating Possible Connection between Oklahoma Bank Robber and Aggravated Assault in Irving

 

The Irving Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred on Tuesday, January 19 at approximately 12:23 a.m. in the 1900 block of E. Grauwyler Road. The victim is an employee at a convenience store. He contacted the police after being robbed at gunpoint. The suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's car keys. The victim refused and the suspect went behind the counter and began stealing merchandise. During the robbery, the suspect grabbed a metal baseball bat from behind the counter and used it to strike the victim repeatedly. He then took the victim's keys and fled the scene in the victim's car. The victim suffered serious head injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

On Thursday, January 21, Irving Police detectives were contacted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation regarding the victim's stolen car. Law enforcement officials were investigating a bank robbery and shooting in Eufaula, Oklahoma that occurred earlier that day. The suspect in their case reportedly committed a bank robbery, killing the bank manager, and fled in the Irving victim's stolen car. The suspect was later shot and killed after engaging law enforcement officers in gunfire.

Detectives are working to determine if the suspect in the Oklahoma bank robbery is responsible for the January 19 robbery in Irving.
