The Irving Parks and Recreation Department reports the southern section of the city’s Campión Trails system in Mountain Creek Preserve and Trinity View parks is now open. Rainfall inundated the parks and trails over the Thanksgiving holiday. The heavy rains caused the water levels of Lewisville and Grapevine lakes, as well as the Trinity River, to rise. The rising water damaged parts of the Campión Trails system in north and south Irving, and the city closed a number of parks and trails to ensure the safety of all users.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to release water from Lewisville and Grapevine lakes. City staff is monitoring and inspecting the sites regularly to assess damage and determine safety level for visitors.
Affected Parks and Trails:
The northern section of Campión Trails is closed, as low areas of the trails remaiin underwater, including:
- North Campión Trails from Sam Houston Park to California Crossing Park: The trail remains closed due to flooding in the area.
- Sam Houston Park Section of Campión Trails: The trail is completely closed north of I-635 LBJ Freeway because flooding damaged trail structures and paving. This will be a long-term closure; major repairs are needed.
