Ronny Mullins Named MacArthur Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach

Ronny Mullins, who has 29 years of experience teaching and coaching in small and large school districts, has been named athletic coordinator and head football coach at MacArthur High School. He begins his new role on March 14.

“It’s exciting to come into a situation where a good foundation has been laid and be able to add your touch and have the opportunity to make it better than it has been,” says Mullins who has ties to MacArthur High School dating back to the 1980s.  With relatives who attended MacArthur and a familiarity with former coaches and principals, Mullins says he’s always been attracted to MacArthur High School.

“I’m excited about the community and the program,” he says. “MacArthur has always had good teams and they’ve got a good group of kids.” Acknowledging the teams in the recently-realigned District 7-6A, Mullins says he knows the competition is going to be a challenge. “I’m looking forward to meeting that challenge head on with the players and staff,” he says.

In his almost three decades in the education field, Mullins has served as athletic director, assistant athletic director, history teacher, physical education teacher – and most recently as athletic coordinator and head football coach at Frisco Centennial High School.

He began his career in education in 1988 in Garland ISD as a teacher and assistant coach at Garland High School and was then a teacher, head football coach and athletic coordinator at Naaman Forest High School from 1993 to 1999. Mullins was then named athletic coordinator and head football coach at Frisco High School before being promoted to assistant athletic director for Frisco ISD in 2005.

In 2010, he was named Prosper ISD’s athletic director, a position he held until last April, when he took the job at Frisco Centennial.

“Coach Mullins is a well respected coach across the state,” says Clint Roddy, athletic director for Irving ISD. “He has built strong programs at the schools he’s coached, and I am confident that he will bring the right level of leadership to the position as well as serve as a strong role model and coach for our student-athletes.”

When Coach Mullins begins his role at MacArthur High School, Roddy says, “We can expect to see a team that is well coached and prepared to compete in District 7-6A. Coach Mullins is known to produce teams with a fiercely competitive spirit, and we’re looking forward to seeing it on display this season.”

Mullins holds a bachelor’s degree in science/speech communications from the University of Texas at Austin and earned teacher certifications in history and speech from Texas A&M University- Commerce.
