Three Suspects in Custody on Capital Murder Investigation

The Irving Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the 300 block of W. Cason Street. At approximately 11:10 p.m. officers responded to a shooting call and located the victim, Jared Andrew Thomas (22 years-of-age), suffering from a gunshot wound. A female acquaintance told officers that Thomas had been shot during an attempted robbery. Thomas was transported to Parkland Hospital but he did not survive.

The investigation revealed that Thomas and his acquaintance were in the area to make an illicit drug purchase. Both were approached by three suspects who began to rob them because of a past grievance. During the robbery attempt, Thomas fought with one of the suspects and was shot.

Detectives identified and arrested three suspects in connection with the robbery and shooting. They are Paul Alvear (24 years-of-age), Larry Adam Guerra (21 years-of-age) and Juan Antonio Rico (22 years-of-age). All three suspects are currently in the Irving Jail on a charge of Capital Murder. Two additional persons were arrested in connection with the case; however, charges were dropped after the investigation revealed they were not directly involved in the offense.
