Irving Police Officers Kill Armed Suspect

The Irving Police Department is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Friday, February 3, at approximately 6:26 p.m. in the 4300 block of Wingren Road.

Officers were dispatched to the location on a shots fired call at approximately 5:02 p.m. Hotel management contacted police about shots being fired in one of their guest rooms. Police conducted a preliminary investigation to determine the location of the shots being fired and identified a particular room. Once officers made contact at the suspected room, they heard additional shots being fired inside. Officers established a perimeter and continued to attempt to make contact with the occupant inside the room. The suspect exited the room armed with a handgun, at which point, the officers commanded the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect failed to comply with the officers’ commands and fearing for their safety three officers discharged their service weapons.

Life saving measures were implemented, but the suspect was deceased at the scene. The officers involved in the shooting were not injured. The identities of the suspect and officers are not being released at this time.

The investigation is in the initial stages; therefore, limited information is available at this time.
