Four Elementary Classes Score Big in Math Challenge

Irving ISD teamed up with ExploreLearning to host a fun academic challenge for the district’s second through fifth-graders. From February 1 to March 31, classrooms participated in the Green Light Promotion with Reflex, a game-based computer program designed to develop math skills. To build math fact fluency, students were encouraged to go for the “green light” at least three times a week. The green light serves as an indicator that a player has reached a certain milestone in each game. After calculating data and total facts answered, four classrooms from Davis, Johnston, Townley and Townsell elementary schools were named top winners and surprised by ExploreLearning with special prizes to celebrate their success. Classes were:

· Johnston: Blanca Jurado’s fourth-grade GT class; 115,481 facts

· Townley: Robin Hurt’s fourth-grade class; 175,238 facts

· Davis: Roberto Villanueva’s second-grade class; 214, 215 facts

· Townsell: Eskkellikka Gibson’s fifth-grade math class; 223,405 facts

Photos from the presentations can be found on the district’s Photo Gallery.
