Irving Public Library Adds Kanopy Streaming Movies

You can now watch classic and new movies from around the world with Irving Public Library’s latest digital download service Kanopy.  

Broaden your enjoyment of cinema with early silent classics, French New Wave, Italian neorealism and Akira Kurosawa’s samurai classics as part of the Criterion Collection. Kanopy delivers new independent and world cinema releases every month, including many fresh from the international film festival circuit.

Fans of documentaries will find new and acclaimed films covering nearly every topic under the sun - arts, politics, media, science, culture and LGBTQ experience. Students young and old can dig deep into educational videos with collections including:

  • The Great Courses: Everyday Gourmet, How to Become a SuperStar Student, and The Great Tours.
  • PBS: Frontline, Nova and Finding Your Roots.
  • TMW Media Group: Shakespeare plays, Tell Me How Career series, and Religions of the World.

Getting Started

Kanopy requires a digital device (tablet or computer) with a recent web browser and internet connection. Be sure your library card is current and without blocks. To get started with Kanopy follow these instructions:

  1. Go to irving.kanopystreaming.com and click on the orange Sign up button.
  2. Enter your first name, last name, email address and create a password, then click Sign Up.
  3. Go into your email and open up the Kanopy message to verify your email address.
  4. Go back to your web browser and add your library card number and PIN.
  5. Start watching videos!

Movies and videos can be watched up to 72 hours after checkout. Card holders can checkout seven items per month, starting on the first day of the month. Movies and videos are streaming only, so they cannot be downloaded to a device. Movies and videos include public performance rights.
