Laughs by the Lake Returns to Lake Carolyn Sept. 1

The City of Irving’s annual comedy show returns to the shores of Lake Carolyn at 7 p.m. Sept. 1.

This year, organizers hope to give a budding comic a chance at stardom. In July, organizers collected entries from local comedians and chose three to compete. The day of the event, those three will step up to the microphone to deliver their funniest five-minute set. The audience will then vote for their favorite. The winner will walk away with the title and a cash prize.

The knee-slapping continues immediately following the showcase with performances by three professional comedians. Headlining the group is three-time Daytime Emmy winner Ben Bailey, best known as the host of the game show “Cash Cab.” Bailey has appeared on multiple morning and late night shows, hosted “Who’s Still Standing” (NBC) and “After the Catch” (Discovery), and released several comedy specials. Dorie McLemore and Troy Walker round out this year’s list of performers.

The event will be hosted by local entertainer Comedian Q. Seating is not provided, and bringing blankets or lawn chairs is encouraged. In-N-Out Burgers will be giving away free meals, while supplies last. Fuzzy’s Tacos also will be on-site with food and beverages for purchase. Outside food and nonalcoholic drinks may be brought in.

While there will be no profanity or obscene language, all comedic content is designed and intended for an adult audience. All ages are welcome to attend, but parental caution is recommended for children under 13.
