Irving Family Involved in Fatal Traffic Collision in Grand Prairie


Irving, Texas. August 15, 2017

Grand Prairie Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred around 9:10 P.M. on Friday, August 11th, on westbound IH 30 at the Belt Line Rd. exit.  

Demitiri Gomez, 26, of Irving, was driving a 2006 Honda Civic westbound on IH 30 at a high speed when he lost control of the car at the Belt Line exit ramp.

The car rotated sideways and entered the median between the off ramp and the freeway, colliding with a concrete light pole base.

Monica Lopez, 29, of Irving died at the scene of the crash. Alexxia Gomez, 4, and Armani Gomez, 3, were transported by GPFD ambulances to Children's Medical Center of Dallas, where both died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The children were in the back seat of the car in regular seat belts, but were not secured in child seats.  

Demitri Gomez was taken by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation.  

This is the 9th fatal collision in Grand Prairie this year.
