Irving ISD Lends a Helping Hand

As our friends to the south reel from what has been called the greatest natural disaster in modern-day history, several Irving ISD students, student groups and staff members have heeded the call to help. Below are a few ways Irving ISD is assisting in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts:

  • Austin Middle School choir director Dustin Barksdale is performing/hosting a benefit show at 10 p.m. Friday, September 1, at Opening Bell Coffee (1409 S. Lamar St., Dallas, TX 75215). Admission is $10, all proceeds go to the American Red Cross of Texas.
  • Austin Middle School band director Kris Crowder’s Army unit has been activated in response to Hurricane Harvey. He is currently in Austin awaiting assignment.
  • The Singley Academy National Honor Society hosted a $1 Donation Drive during the school’s lunches this week.
  • Irving ISD middle schools partnered with Irving Cares and Irving Police Department to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and diapers/wipes for displaced families.
  • The eagles of Lively Elementary School hosted a jeans day fundraiser and raised more than $2,500 in one day to donate to the American Red Cross.
