Brandenburg Elementary GT teacher Grizelle Larriviel received a special visit from the Dallas Stars after being selected as the Future Goals Teacher of the Month. Ms. Larriviel was nominated by representatives from EVERFI, an education technology company that is partnering with the Stars and National Hockey League (NHL) to provide digital resources to teach the mathematics and science behind sports. This year, the Stars wanted to recognize a local teacher leading the way with the NHL’s STEM program, Hockey Scholar. Ms. Larriviel’s name rose to the top of the list, being the first Irving ISD teacher to implement EVERFI courses, such as Hockey Scholar, in the classroom. On Wednesday, she and co-teacher Irene Sosa (right) were surprised with the announcement, tickets to a Stars’ game and Stars' gear.
