Irving Pharmacist Jim Hrncir RPh Compounding Pharmacist of the Year

PCCA has named Jim Hrncir, RPh, of Las Colinas Pharmacy in Irving, Texas, as its Dr. M. George Webber 2017 Compounding Pharmacist of the Year, an award that is presented annually to an independent pharmacist who has demonstrated service excellence to patients, health care providers and pharmacy colleagues.

Compounding is the pharmacy method of preparing customized medications to meet each prescriber’s and patient’s unique needs. PCCA President Jim Smith and CEO L. David Sparks presented the award to Hrncir on October 6, 2017, during the company’s International Seminar in Houston, Texas.

“[Jim] has the highest level of ethical standards both professionally and personally,” said Sparks. “Over the years, [he] has become the ‘go-to guru’ who teaches and gives advice to physicians for all compounded prescriptions and medical labs with shared patients, even on an international level.”

Hrncir opened Las Colinas Pharmacy in 1984 and is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association, the American Pharmacists Association, the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, the American College of Apothecaries and the Texas Pharmacy Association. He joined PCCA in 1990 and was selected as the PCCA Pharmacist of the Month in October 2009. Las Colinas Pharmacy has been PCAB/ACHC Accredited since 2014, placing it in the top 2% of compounding pharmacies in the country. Jim is a member of the Irving/Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce and the Irving/Las Colinas Sunrise Rotary Club. In the past few years Las Colinas Pharmacy has been voted best pharmacy and best Bio-Identical Hormone Center.

Hrncir has appeared on numerous radio and television shows promoting compounded prescription medication, including the Dr. Phil show. He also co-authored the hormone and thyroid chapter of Robin McGraw’s book What’s Age Got to Do with It?

At the event, Hrncir was welcomed to the stage by 14 previous recipients of the Compounding Pharmacist of the Year award. His wife, Jan, and much of his staff joined him to help celebrate the honor. Several friends and colleagues spoke about how important he has been to them personally and professionally, including Cyndi Hicks, PCCA Director of Events Management and Culture; Bill Letendre, MS, RPh, MBA, PCCA Vice President of Compounding Pharmacy Management Services; Jeff Carson, RPh, 2010 Pharmacist of the Year; Michelle Biggs, PCCA Vice President of Pharmacy Software; Eddie Glover, RPh, 2009 Pharmacist of the Year; and Erin Michael, MBA, CPhT, PCCA Director of Outside Sales.

The late Dr. M. George Webber, for whom the award is named, was a longtime professor with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, and was instrumental in the formation of PCCA in 1981. He was unwaveringly committed to meeting patient needs and upholding the highest quality and ethical standards, and shared his expertise and love for compounding with his colleagues and his students for more than 40 years.
