The Impact of 30 Minutes

30 minutes a week can change a child’s life forever. That’s the message relayed by organizers of School Works, a faith-based coalition in Irving, at a luncheon held Friday at Singley Academy. The event provided attendees an overview of the district and outlined the ways to become involved in Irving ISD schools – whether that’s as a reading buddy at the elementary level, lunch buddy at middle school or mentoring a high school student. During the luncheon, Singley Academy sophomore Yasmine Lopez (pictured here with her mentor, Jan Fanning) shared the powerful impact of this program on her life. “I’m really thankful for this program because it changed my whole mindset,” she said, as she referenced the struggles of her family. “(School Works mentors) helped me understand something positive is coming my way. This (program) helped me a lot, and it’s going to help so many kids that are going through similar things. They’re counting on y’all.” For more information, visit www.schoolworksdfw.org.
