Suspect Dies After Being Shot by Irving Police Officer

Irving, Texas. January 26, 2018

On January 22, 2018 at approximately 1:07 a.m. in the 3200 block of Finley Road, and Irving Police Officer shot 28-year-old Aaron Olivarez Candanoza.  After the shooting, Candanoza was transported to Parkland Hospital where he later died from his injuries.  No officers where injured.

Officers had responded to an apartment complex after a witness reported seeing a man breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot.  As officers arrived on scene, the Candanoza got into a pickup truck and attempted to flee.  In doing so, he rammed a police car and several other vehicles in the parking lot.  One officer, in fear for his life, discharged his duty weapon striking Candanoza at least one time.

Candanoza is from Cleveland, Texas.  Detectives found that he had outstanding felony arrest warrants for Unlawful Possession Firearm by Felon (Bond Forfeiture) from Liberty County Sheriff's Office and Money Laundering from Hill County Sheriff's Office.
