Four Irving ISD wrestlers are headed to state. Congratulations to Irving High School sophomore Linda Ventura on winning the regional championship in the 148-pound class. She will be joined at state by Irving senior Guillermo Lopez, who won the bronze in the 200-pound class. A pair of MacArthur wrestlers each placed fourth in their respective classes to earn a state bid: junior Candace Davis in the 165-pound category and sophomore Tyler Nelson in the 170-pound category. In addition, Nimitz wrestler Yenifer Martinez and MacArthur wrestler Jazmin Amezquita Granados qualified as alternates in the 119- and 215-pound classes, respectively. The wrestling state tournament is this weekend – Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, in Cypress.
