The Foundation for Music Education delivered great news to student musicians at de Zavala Middle School. The varsity band and its director Melissa Colvin were selected as a Commended Winner in the 2018 Mark of Excellence project. The band was recognized in the National Wind Band Honors category for their outstanding achievement in performance, earning a place in the competitive New Music Division. The accomplishment is a huge feat as nearly 280 middle and high school ensembles from 38 states entered the competition this year. As a recipient, the band will receive feedback from renowned adjudicators on their recorded submission and recognition in upcoming publications and conventions.
