Lady Cardinals Soccer Team Captures Tournament Title in Dramatic Fashion

The MacArthur Lady Cardinals soccer team defeated Nimitz in penalty kicks to win the Judy Hammond/Irving Schools Girls Soccer Tournament this weekend. In the final game, the Lady Vikings took a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Lady Cardinals fought back in the second half and scored two goals to take the lead 2-1. The Lady Vikings scored the equalizer goal with 12 minutes to play to force the game into penalty kicks. In penalty kicks, the teams entered the final round tied at 3. Nimitz missed their attempt and MacArthur junior Reese Reno beat the Nimitz goalkeeper to snag the title.

“It is always a battle when these two programs get together and play,” says MacArthur girls soccer coach Eric Alonzo. “I was really impressed with Nimitz’s play in midfield and we will have to work on some things before the next time we face them in district play.”
