Irving-based Builder JPI Tops DFW Apartment Construction Ranking

For the fourth year in a row, Irving-based apartment builder JPI has been ranked as the busiest developer of rental communities in North Texas.

JPI had more than 5,000 apartments under construction at the start of 2019 — more than twice the number of its closest competitor, according to a ranking by RealPage.

JPI finished almost 1,400 Dallas-Fort Worth apartments in 2018.

"There is undoubtedly a large amount of growth occurring in the Dallas-Fort Worth market," Matt Brendel, divisional president and managing partner at JPI, said in a statement. "Because we have been in the market for more than 30 years, we are uniquely positioned to cater to residents and their needs."

JPI started seven D-FW apartment projects in 2018.

The second-ranked North Texas builder, Davis Development, had just over 1,400 apartments under construction in January, according to RealPage. Greystar was third with 949 units underway.

More than 35,000 rental units are being built in North Texas — more than any other U.S. metro area.

JPI just broke ground on its next local apartment project, the 390-unit Jefferson East Branch on the Dallas North Tollway near the Galleria.

"It's been an exciting year, and we are motivated as we kick off this next year," said Brendel.
