Verizon Innovative Learning to Give Irving Middle Schools Free Tech Education

Three Irving ISD middle schools will join the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative, which provides free technology, free internet access and hands-on learning experiences to help give underserved students the education they deserve.

de Zavala, Johnson and Travis Middle Schools are among 52 new schools joining Verizon Innovative Learning for the 2019-20 school year. With the new cohort, the total number of middle schools in the program nationwide is 152, which includes Irving ISD’s other five middle schools that joined the program in 2017. Now that all eight Irving middle schools are participating, Irving ISD is the only school district in the nation to have 100% of its middle schools in the program.

To celebrate the three new schools’ participation in the program, a kick-off event will feature local middle school students each receiving their own tablets, as well as:

  • Firsthand remarks from administrators and program leaders on why hands-on learning experiences using technology – particularly in middle school – are so important to academic achievement and lifelong success.
  • At the event, teacher and student tech teams will host multiple STEM learning stations. At these stations, students and their parents can see how engaging and limitless STEM learning can be.

The kick-off event will take place Friday, September 6, at 4:15 p.m. at de Zavala Middle School, 707 W.  Pioneer Dr, Irving, TX 75061
