Ex-Irving Nimitz Players Spears and Scott Enjoying Historic Season with SMU Mustangs

The SMU Mustangs are undefeated and currently ranked 19th in the AP Top 25.   Noah Spears, DE, and Delontae Scott, DE, are part of the Mustang defense.  Both are graduates of Nimitz High School in Irving.  Scott is a senior defensive end and Spears is a junior.

As a junior last year, Delontae Scott started in all 11 games, registered 32 tackles (20 solo) and was second on the team with 4.5 sacks.    In 2019, he was selected to the second-team defense in the Athlon Sports Preseason AAC.  In the first six games of the 2019 season, he has already accumulated 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks to help the Mustangs stay undefeated.

SMU features a high-powered offense with Shane Buechele at QB and receiver Reggie Roberson Jr out of Desoto.

The Mustangs have a real chance to go undefeated this season.  After defeating one of their toughest opponents, Temple, by a score of 45-21, they are poised to make a historic run.  In the remaining five games, they will face Houston, Memphis, East Carolina, Navy and Tulane.  Memphis and Navy will be tough matchups and are playing well this year.
