Irving Police To Focus on DWI Enforcement During 4th of July Weekend

During the July 4 holiday period, there is a higher likelihood of impaired drivers on the roadways causing an increased potential for alcohol-related crashes involving injuries or deaths.

To curtail drunken driving, the Irving Police Department will take part in a No Refusal, DWI Enforcement Initiative over the July 4 holiday weekend between July 3 and July 5. During that time, additional officers whose primary focus will be to locate and arrest impaired drivers will be on duty. DWI patrols will concentrate their efforts in high-risk areas and at times when impaired driving is most frequent. The high visibility and enforcement efforts should serve as a warning to those who would consider driving while impaired.

The Irving Police Department and TxDOT encourage people to “Plan While You Can” to avoid the consequences of impaired driving. A person’s abilities, decision-making skills and judgement can diminish while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Consider the use of a taxi or car service, a designated driver or public transportation as an alternative to driving after drinking.

The public is encouraged to call 911 if they see a suspected drunk driver and they (or a passenger) can do so safely.
