Stolen Vehicle Suspect that Resisted Arrest Identified

Johnny Drumgole Mugshot

Irving police responded to a stolen vehicle call Sunday afternoon at the Irving Home Depot.

The first officer on scene observed a male suspect walking up to the stolen vehicle and attempted to detain him.  The suspect resisted by pulling away from the officer and proceeded to get into the stolen vehicle.  As he put the vehicle in drive, the officer ended up wedged between two vehicles and the suspect attempted to seriously injure or kill the officer to get away.

Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his weapon.  Although he missed the suspect, the action taken was enough for the individual to stop resisting arrest and he was taken into custody.   Both the officer and suspect were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Irving Police say that the suspect faces numerous charges upon his release to include aggravated assault on a public servant.

Update: July 6

The suspect has been identified as 41 year-old Johnny Drumgole.   Drumgole has been arrested and booked into the Irving City Jail for aggravated assault against a public servant with a $500,000 bond, and auto theft with a $50,000 bond.

Drumgole's injuries consisted of minor scrapes.  The officer suffered injury to his legs from being pinned between the driver's side door of the stolen vehicle and his patrol vehicle.   The officer is at home recovering.
