The Irving Police Department has arrested and charged 23-year-old Arturo Santiago Pena-Almanza Jr. for the murder of 2-year-old Jeremiah Degrate Rios.
On Tuesday, September 21, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Irving Officers responded to an unconscious person call in the 300 block of Brown Dr. Upon arrival Irving Police and Fire Department personnel found Jeremiah deceased inside the residence.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Jeremiah's death was not an accident. Arturo was arrested on Wednesday, September 22, for Abandoning or Endangering A Child.
In a press conference, Irving Police said that they hurried to arrest the suspect to prevent him from fleeing.
Arturo had been in a relationship with the child's mother for over a year and lived in the same residence.
While Investigators were interviewing Arturo on Thursday, September 23, he confessed to murdering Jeremiah by hitting him several times due to the child wiping feces on him. At that time, Arturo's charge was upgraded to Capital Murder of a Person under/10 years of age. Arturo is currently at Dallas County Jail.
