Attempted Kidnapping at Meet the Teacher Night Thwarted by an Observant Parent

An observant parent was able to stop an attempted kidnapping of her child.

The incident happened during meet the teacher night at the International Leadership of Texas School in North Richland Hills, Texas, on the evening of Tuesday, August 9th. The parent noticed an adult male walking the hallways of the school, not accompanying a child. The male, later identified as 31-year-old Kevin Ward, put his arm around the child and attempted to usher the child away from his mother. The mother was able to pull the child back and alerted school officials. The school then contacted the North Richland Hills Police Department. Ward was located outside of the school and taken into custody without incident.

Ward was charged with Unlawful Restraint Less Than 17 Years of Age, a felony, with a bond set at $150,000. He is currently in the Tarrant County Jail.

The North Richland Hills Police Department thanks the parent for their quick-thinking action and wants to remind everyone how important it is to report suspicious behavior to the police.
