On November 29, 2022, at approximately 7:27 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at the Family Dollar store located at 3200 S. Lancaster Road. When officers arrived they found a man lying in front of the store with a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire and Rescue responded and the man died at the scene.
The preliminary investigation determined a fight happened inside the store when the male victim was confronted by store employees over items he was attempting to steal. The suspect, Kevin Jackson Sr, 47, entered the store as a customer, witnessed the fight, and then shot the victim. The victim stumbled outside the store and collapsed. The victim did not have any weapons at the time of the incident.
The suspect was arrested for murder and taken to Lew Sterrett jail.
The incident remains under investigation.
UPDATE: The thief that was killed has been identified as 26-year-old Phillips Betts.
