On Friday, May 12, 2023, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Irving Police Fugitive Unit located a wanted felon on foot on the south service road of SH183 near the merge with Irving Blvd. Officers had received a tip that the suspect was in the area he was found.
The suspect was armed with a handgun and as Officers attempted to take him into custody, he took out the gun. Three Officers fired at the suspect wounding him. No information was provided as to how many rounds were fired or if the suspect discharged his weapon.
The suspect was given medical treatment by the Officers until the Irving Fire Department (IFD) arrived on-scene. IFD proceeded to transport the suspect to Parkland Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The name of the suspect is not being released at this time until his family is contacted by Irving Police.
No officers were injured.
"There is no continued threat to the public.", assured Irving Public Information Officer, Robert Reeves.
