The Irving Police Department has recently released its 2023 statistics on Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) incidents, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance on the roads during the holiday season.
From now until January 1st, the Irving Police Department will be on high alert, intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend individuals driving under the influence. The holiday season, historically marked by increased social gatherings and celebrations, poses an elevated risk for accidents involving impaired drivers.
In 2023 alone, Irving Police Officers made a total of 815 DWI arrests, investigated 44 major crashes, and reported 28 fatalities.
To amplify their message of caution, the Irving Police Department is using the hashtags #endthestreaktx and #planwhileyoucan on social media platforms. The aim is to encourage drivers to make responsible choices and avoid getting behind the wheel if they have consumed alcohol.
The police department highlights the average cost of a first DWI, estimated at $10,000, compared to the more affordable and responsible alternative of utilizing rideshare services such as Uber or a taxi, which typically cost around $25.
