Irving Police Investigation
In October 2023, the Irving Police Vice Unit received a tip about Korean "Studios" operating out of apartments in North Irving and Farmers Branch. The investigation revealed two websites featuring seminude photos of Korean women with contact details for services, sparking a large-scale inquiry into the site owners.
By early November 2023, an Irving Police Investigator identified a website offering sexual services in Las Colinas. Contacting a listed number, arrangements were made for a meeting, which investigators cancelled prior to its scheduled time. This validated the tipped received as being truthful. A subsequent search warrant for an apartment at 443 Northwest Highway in Las Colinas led to the discovery of Min Jung Kim as the resident, suspected to be involved in operating one of the illicit websites.
Further investigation linked Bobby Yu of Richardson as the financier of the websites. Records obtained through warrants indicated financial transactions involving Kim and another suspect, Eunsook Kang. On March 5, 2024, the Irving Police executed 8 residential search warrants, leading to the arrest of Kang and Kim, along with confirmation from five women of their involvement in prostitution linked to the websites.
During the operation, an additional location was identified at an apartment at 1141 Luna Rd in Farmers Branch. Upon searching that apartment, investigators found two women admitting to prostitution activities, with a male arrested for unrelated warrants. Apartment management confirmed Bobby Yu as the lessee, noting his monthly visits for rent payments.
A subsequent search at Yu's residence in Richardson yielded his arrest for outstanding warrants and the seizure of significant cash amounts hidden in various locations within his bedroom, totaling $49,348.
On January 17, 2024, Irving Police identified the involvement of Yunhee Kim in the online brothers and the use of apartments in Irving for prositution. They found that Kim leased one of the apartments for the operation. Irving Police conducted surveillance on Kim and found that she resided in the 4300 block of Peregrine Way in Carrollton. They did a trash pull at that Carrollton residence and found evidence of her involvement in Bamboo Spa. Several Undercover prostitution operations were conducted at Bamboo Spa by Special Investigations Division Detectives. As a result Kim was arrested in March.
Dallas Police Investigation
On July 14, 2020, Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Division Vice Unit began receiving complaints about an illicit massage parlor operating at 11113 Harry Hines Blvd #B, Dallas County, Texas, known as "Sun Spa". Undercover Vice Detectives successfully made prostitution cases there before it closed due to Covid-19, leading the investigation to stall.
On April 29, 2022, a victim disclosed prostitution-related offenses involving various spas, including Bali Spa at 9780 Walnut St #148. The victim identified Min Jung Kim and Chaemok Juong as operators of multiple spas and online brothels using apartments in Irving and Farmers Branch.
From December 2022 to March 2024, Dallas Police conducted an extensive investigation but did not make any arrests initially. They identified Min Jung Kim and Chaemok Juong as operators of spas at 11118 Harry Hines Blvd and 9780 Walnut St, along with managing online brothel websites.
Dallas Police conducted undercover operations at these spas, including Phoenix Spa at 8010 N Stemmons Fwy, resulting in multiple prostitution cases. Working jointly with Irving Police on similar cases, they arrested Chaemok Juong at his residence on the 1800 block of Knightsbridge Rd in Farmers Branch.
